Why does my breeder require me to sign a contract?
A contract is about establishing mutual expectations. A contract at the least should cover the quality of life issues of the dog and outline the expected care and conditions of life. It should guard against mistreatment, dog fighting, cruelty, inhumane treatment and abuse.
Devildog Kennels believes this is critical and an important component in the process of acquiring one of our Devildogs. We always include this language.
Purchaser agrees that this American Bulldog will have all routine and emergency veterinary care as recommended by their veterinarian.
Purchaser agrees to keep breeder, Devildog Kennels informed as to the welfare of this bulldog.
This American Bulldog puppy has had all required shots. Purchaser agrees to update all necessary booster, rabies and distemper shots. Purchaser is responsible for all veterinary bills.
Purchaser should schedule a well-puppy exam within 10 days of purchase in order to establish veterinarian care and services.
Purchaser agrees to never place this American Bulldog in a shelter, pound, any laboratory or other placement that would harm the bulldog.

"I really want an American Bulldog."
Have you ever owned one?
If Yes, then you know what it is to have one. They are lovable, affectionate, personality driven creatures. You probably realized with your first one you could never have any other type of dog breed in your life. They are big and bully and not for everyone.
If No, what we want you to understand is that your American Bulldog will be 85 to 120 pounds. They need space and walks daily to expend energy and to remain healthy.
To quote a fellow bulldogger "your love for your bulldog is only matched by the money you are willing to part with for all that they chew, break, rip, and/or destroy."
You should be committed to a training program prior to an American Bulldog puppy entering your household. Good training and continuing your knowledge base about this breed are keys to success.
American Bulldogs are really the best dogs. We believe that "they are not for everyone". You may have had a dog before but Bull breeds are a different situation.
We ask our prospective American Bulldog owners these questions for a reason. We want to know that you are really aware of the commitment and prepared for an American Bulldog in your life.
